Dual Credit

 

Two credits in one!

Dual Credits are Ministry-approved programs that allow students, while they are still in secondary school, to take college courses that count towards:

Niagara Catholic uses the “congregated at college” approach to Dual Credits:

  • Students are transported to Niagara College– Welland or Niagara-on-the-Lake campus depending on the secondary school and program offered
  • Take a course with a Niagara College Instructor and receive additional support from an Niagara Catholic Dual Credit Teacher and Educational Assistant
  • Student achievement is evaluated by College standards

 

Two types of Dual Credits offered:

  • Connecting to College (CtoC)- two general elective Dual Credits offered four afternoons a week
  •  Technology and Arts & Culture - one or two program specific Dual Credits offered two or four afternoons a week

 

Benefits of a Dual Credit Course:

  • Great way to transition to post secondary– high school support in a college environment
  • No cost to student for transportation, courses or materials– free college credits
  • Courses are scheduled between Monday and Thursday each week
  • Access to college resources such as library, gym, social
  • Preparation to become an independent learner
  • Potential re-engagement of students who are at risk of not graduating
  • Increase access to and participation in post secondary education– career potential
